What are SMART Recovery Meetings Like?
SMART Recovery® groups are small and intimate allowing people to interact with one another. They are open to discussions and material related to the Smart Recovery program. The primary focus during these meetings is to assist people on how to maintaining focus and motivation to quit alcoholism, drug addiction, and other compulsive behaviors. These meetings also help people to learn how to handle urges without acting on them. They also help people develop skills and new ways of coping with conflict and problems while creating a healthy, positive lifestyle.
The meetings are 90 minutes long, giving every participant time to speak and focus on those who may need additional help and guidance from their peers. A SMART meeting has usually no more than 10 participants, which fosters individualized attention and care as well as establishing a bond with other members of the group.
